Product compression

Compression helps make better use of shelf space: products in soft packaging are compressed, allowing additional product facings to be laid out. For example, soft packages of chips and other snacks can be compressed to fit more compactly on the shelf.


In this article, we will review how to configure compression coefficients in the product card and directly on the planogram — for one product or several at once.

How to set the compression coefficient in the product card

The compression coefficient determines how much a product in soft packaging decreases in volume when laid out. It can be configured for packaged and weight products, but only if packing has been created for them. 


To set the compression coefficient, open the "Product information" tab. This can be done in two ways: 

  1. In the "Products" block: 
  • Thumbnail mode — hover over the product card and click "Edit";
  • Table mode — at the end of the row, click "More actions" → "Edit".


  1. In planogram editing mode: 
  • Click the product on the planogram or in the product list;
  • In the panel with brief product information, click "Set up product" in the upper-right corner.


In the "Compression parameters" block, set the coefficient values using the sliders for each projection:

  • 0% — the product is not compressed;
  • 1% — minimum compression;
  • 90% — maximum compression. The value of 100% is unavailable since the product cannot be compressed to zero.


Next to the sliders, there is a product image that shows the product parameters by height, width, and depth, and updates automatically when the coefficients are changed. 


Important! The set compression coefficients will be applied to all planograms with the selected coefficient, except those for which the "Apply changes only to this planogram" toggle is enabled in the product layout settings. The "Replace set coefficients on planograms" toggle allows you to forcibly apply new coefficients even to planograms that have their own values set. 


Click "Apply" to save the changes. 


Please note: Compression coefficients affect the physical parameters of the product, and therefore — the linear meters of its layout. Note that this change will affect analytics metrics: profit and turnover per linear meter of equipment.

How to set the compression coefficient on a planogram for one product

To set the compression coefficient directly on the planogram:

  1. Open it in editing mode;
  2. Click the laid out product and select "Set up" on the toolbar;
  3. In the "Product layout settings" panel, open the "Compression settings" block;
  4. The coefficients set in the product card are displayed by default. Enable the checkboxes next to the required coefficients (height, width, depth) so that the sliders become active and can be changed;
  5. Enable the "Apply changes only to this planogram" toggle so that the changes apply only to the current planogram;
  6. Click "Apply" to save the changes.


Important! If the checkbox remains active when applying compression coefficients, all subsequent changes made from the product card will automatically overwrite the product data on the planogram — regardless of whether the "Apply changes only to this planogram" toggle is enabled. 



How to set the compression coefficient on a planogram for several products

To configure the compression coefficient for several products at once:

  1. Select the required products on the planogram and click "Set up" on the toolbar;
  2. In the "Compression settings" block, enable the checkboxes and drag the slider to the required value to change compression in bulk.


Note! If compression has already been applied to some of the selected products, the checkbox will automatically have the "–" state. In this case, changing the slider will only affect those products. To apply the new value to all products, click the checkbox to make it active.


For example: If out of 8 selected products, height compression was already applied to 3, the checkbox will have the "–" state, and changing the slider will affect only those 3 products. If you click the checkbox, the change will apply to all 8.



Examples of compression coefficient setting dependencies

  1. Changing coefficients from the product card, "Replace set coefficients on planograms" toggle is inactive: 

Changes are applied to all planograms where the product is laid out, for the parameters whose checkboxes are active, provided that the "Apply changes only to this planogram" toggle is disabled. 


  1. Changing coefficients from the product card, "Replace set coefficients on planograms" toggle is active: 

All coefficients are changed on all planograms where the product is laid out, the checkbox is active, and the "Apply changes only to this planogram" toggle is enabled. 


  1. Changing product coefficients from the planogram, "Apply changes only to this planogram" toggle is disabled: 

Coefficients are overwritten in the product card and on all other planograms where this product is laid out, for the parameters whose checkboxes are active, provided that the "Apply changes only to this planogram" toggle is disabled. 


  1. Changing product coefficients from the planogram, "Apply changes only to this planogram" toggle is active: 

Changes are applied only to the current planogram.
